Lords Rally Late to Clip Montreal
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Baltimore Lords and the Montreal Habitants, Pete Veirs, who finished 5th in the NBL in strikeouts with 181 in 1965, was the difference-maker. The Baltimore left-hander spearheaded the 1-0 win. Denny Boyd collected his 4th save. The win has Baltimore at 15-22.
Brian Fitch drew 1 walk in his only trip to the plate for Baltimore. The 29-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Hervé Lelièvre. It was his 6th walk of the season.
"My gosh almighty, Pete was tremendous," said Baltimore manager Steve Read.
