Fans of the Cincinnati Packers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Cincinnati win over the visiting Cleveland Bobcats, 7-4. John Stoddard started for the home team against Myron Baird. Ruben Galvan earned accolades for his performance.

Glenn Palmer, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1965 draft, chipped in a 2-run home run for Cincinnati in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.
