Empires Win 4th Straight, Take Down Habitants, 3-1
|
The New York Empires got a magnificent effort from pitcher Elliot Diehl, who kept Montreal hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Empires win at LaSalle Stadium. Chuck Hinck sewed up the save, his 7th. The 4th-place Habitants have lost 4 consecutive games.
New York used a well-timed hit by Bartholomew Egan to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Empires ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said New York manager John Harris.
