The Cleveland Bobcats weathered an outstanding game by New York catcher Rick Hotz to topple the Knickerbockers, 5-4. Hotz went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Rick Tomlinson earned the save for Cleveland, his 3rd. With the win, Cleveland raised its record to 24-16.

The Bobcats got a big at-bat from catcher Fred Johnson. For the game, Johnson went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Cleveland a 3-1 lead.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Johnson said.
