St. Louis Dismisses Denver, 5-4
|
In a close game at Gates Crescent Park, the St. Louis Explorers edged the Denver Burros, 5-4. St. Louis center fielder Tommy Pickett stood apart with his performance. He went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. Don Dalton recorded his 7th save for St. Louis. The 5th-place Explorers now have a win-loss record of 17-24.
With St. Louis leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Pickett hit a run-scoring single off Denver hurler Carl Taylor. It was the 38th hit of the season for Pickett and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"If it's down the middle," said Pickett, "you might as well hit it."
