Habitants Score Late to Beat Empires, 4-3
|
LaSalle Stadium played host to some exciting baseball.
The Montreal Habitants had to overcome a big game from New York shortstop Dave Matuzak to leave LaSalle Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 4-3. Matuzak was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Bob Valentine. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 3.2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0.
The Habitants got a clutch hit from pitcher Bob Valentine. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring double to win the game for the Habitants.
"This wasn't a good win," said Valentine. "It was a great win."
The Montreal win streak is now 5 games.
