Weintraub Shuts Out Chicago, 2-0
Ralph Weintraub of the Philadelphia Quakers was on top of his game.

The 32-year-old tantalized the Chicago Traders with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.

"He had the changeup working," Chicago manager Larry Link said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Philadelphia hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Weintraub told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season, Weintraub has a 2-4 mark in 8 starts with a 3.09 ERA. He has given up 54 hits in 55.1 innings, struck out 31 and issued 19 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .261 batting average against him.
