Quakers Win Nail-Biter
|
With catcher Tony Martinez leading the charge, the Philadelphia Quakers defeated the Washington Eagles, 4-3, at Quakers Stadium. Martinez, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in RBI with 21, was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The losses continue to add up for Washington, which has now fallen 8 times in a row.
The Quakers relied on center fielder Jim Vadnais for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 11th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring double to seal the deal.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Martinez said in his postgame press conference.
