The Montreal Habitants defeated the New York Empires, 4-1, in American Baseball League action at LaSalle Stadium. Montreal pitcher Rich Barron had a standout performance. Picking up the save was 25-year old right-handed pitcher Mel Calef. Montreal has now won 6 games in a row.
Les Fitzsimmons had a big 2-run double for the Habitants in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Montreal leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from Andy Humphrey, who is tied for 8th in the ABL in quality starts with 7, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Habitants ahead, 4-1.
"I like the roll we're on," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
