Pittsburgh Bats Go Silent in 3-0 Loss
|
A good time was had by all at Knickerbocker Stadium, where the Pittsburgh Industrials and New York Knickerbockers tangled.
In a low-scoring clash between New York and Pittsburgh, pitcher Vern Gould was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-0 Knickerbockers win. Gould got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 7 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs.
Francisco Chavez had a big 2-run double for the Knickerbockers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a curveball from Gene Steinhauer and swatted a double to left. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knickerbockers ahead, 3-0.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Chavez. "I just want to win ballgames."
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Knickerbockers.
