Knickerbockers Shut Out Industrials, 3-0
|
The New York Knickerbockers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Jose Espinoza, who muffled the Pittsburgh offense en route to a tight 3-0 Knickerbockers win at Knickerbocker Stadium. Espinoza, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 1 walk. Steve Eaton recorded the save for New York, his 1st of the season.
The Knickerbockers got a big at-bat from second baseman Pedro Barrera. For the game, Barrera went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Espinoza.
The loss drops Pittsburgh to 3-1.
