Quakers Pick Up 8-4 Win Against Brooklyn
|
Tim Hunt left his imprint on the 8-4 Philadelphia win against the Brooklyn Bluebirds. Hunt, who led the NBL in doubles with 36 in 1966, went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Philadelphia is now 17-27, while Brooklyn is 24-21.
Vern Friend, who finished 5th in the NBL in triples with 9 in 1973, took Brooklyn hurler Kevin Wade deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Quakers on top, 3-1. In all, Friend had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
In postgame comments to the Philadelphia Chronicle, Hunt said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
