Appleby Leads Bobcats to 6-4 Win Over Knickerbockers
|
The Cleveland Bobcats knocked off the New York Knickerbockers, 6-4, at Lakefront Stadium. Dave Appleby was a big reason Cleveland won. The first baseman went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Paul Wiley got the win, improving to 6-1. He worked 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Cleveland is now 23-24, while New York is 27-21.
Appleby contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Cleveland in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Appleby took a splitter from Jack Forbes and stroked the home run to center. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Bobcats to leap in front, 3-1.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Appleby.
