Eagles Take Tight Tilt, 5-4
|
The Washington Eagles turned back the Brooklyn Bluebirds, 5-4, at Monument Field. Mike Lockhart, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Washington reliever Tom McAteer was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Joe Elrod. Washington, at 22-25, occupies 6th place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
The Eagles procured the win, in large part because of shortstop Earl Drake. In the bottom of the 11th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"We had a chance to win," said Brooklyn manager John Meeker, "but we didn't get it done."
