The Houston Drillers defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 10-1. Doing his part was catcher Lute Eccles, who went 2-3 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Houston leads the American Baseball League Western Division by 6 games.

Lou Ward had a big run-scoring triple for the Drillers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Houston leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Larry Black, who is tied for 10th in the ABL in complete games with 2, and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 2-0.

"We took a roundhouse punch to the chin," said losing manager Kurt Peterson.
