Bobcats Defeat Knickerbockers, 5-1
|
The Cleveland Bobcats converted a terrific effort from starter Roger Scherf into a win over the New York Knickerbockers at Lakefront Stadium. The Bobcats won the game by a final score of 5-1. Scherf, now 3-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 5, and allowing 1 run. New York, at 25-25, has lost 5 straight.
Tom Crowell dealt the Knickerbockers a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded and Cleveland leading 3-1, Crowell, who is tied for 7th in the NBL in runs scored with 37, hit a 1-2 sinker for a 2-run single.
Cleveland manager Daniel Mays commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
