Pittsburgh Downed, 5-1, by Quakers
|
Allegheny Field was the site of the home opener for the Pittsburgh Industrials. The contest featured a prime matchup between Mel Hartman of the visiting Philadelphia Quakers and Ron Winder of the Industrials. The final score was 5-1, the Quakers getting the win. Ron Winder turned in the best performance.
Philadelphia used a timely hit from Jim Vadnais to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Quakers ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
Vadnais called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
