Down Goes Montreal, 5-1
|
The Atlanta Generals picked up a win at LaSalle Stadium, topping the Montreal Habitants, 5-1. On the mound for Atlanta was left-hander George Palmer. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Palmer, now 1-0. He tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. Ron Winder earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game.
Atlanta left fielder Wayne Baker contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 3rd hit of the season and put the Generals ahead, 3-1.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Montreal manager Michel Alexandre Cauchon.
Montreal, with the loss, is still a stout 4-1.
