Explorers Suffer 5-2 Loss to Chicago
The Chicago Traders got a marvelous performance from pitcher Larry Cox. The right-hander kept the St. Louis offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-2 Chicago victory at Union Field. Cox yielded 2 runs over 8.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 13 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 6-2. Randy Weisenberg nailed down his 6th save.

Ed White had a big 2-run home run for the Traders in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Bruce Cardenas, who led the NBL in ERA with 1.59 in 1966, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Traders on top, 3-0.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Chicago skipper Larry Link.

With the win over St. Louis, the Traders improved to 31-21.
