Hawks Drop 2-1 Decision to Seagulls
|
In a low-scoring affair between the San Francisco Seagulls and the Chicago Hawks, pitcher Tim Stambaugh was the difference between victory and defeat. The San Francisco right-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Seagulls win. In 8 innings, Stambaugh surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Chuck Porter earned the save, his 11th.
San Francisco took a 1-0 lead on Darrell Martin's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Martin hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Chicago pitcher Bruce Elsner visibly frustrated.
"I like our moxie," said Seagulls manager Al Borie.
The second-place Seagulls sport a record of 30-20.
