|
Kansas City and San Diego played a hard-fought contest.
Kansas City ruined an otherwise fine effort from Dario Fontanez by toppling San Diego, 3-2. The San Diego pitcher threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Dennis Greenlee earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 4-3. Bob Crosby earned the save for Kansas City, his 10th.
Chris Taylor, who is a three-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Taylor contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Kansas City up, 3-2.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Joe Mack.
Kansas City is now 25-28. San Diego is 30-26.
