The Twin Cities Northmen, behind a great outing from Charlie Sokol, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1962, defeated the Houston Drillers, 3-1, at Sam Houston Field. Twin Cities reliever Tommy Lloyd was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-0. Jerry Pederson took the loss for Houston. The victory gives Twin Cities a record of 31-23.

Twin Cities used the timely hitting of Melvin Perez to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Northmen on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Perez.
