Wolverines Get Past New York for 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Detroit Wolverines and the New York Empires, pitcher Juan Rodriguez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Detroit left-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Wolverines win. Rodriguez, now 8-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Detroit has an impressive 37-16 record.
Had Mike Christoph not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Christoph hit a 2-run single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Wolverines.
Christoph said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
