In a low-scoring contest, Detroit pitcher Jay Crain was marvelous in his team's 2-1 win. Detroit is now 38-16, 7 games up in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.

In the bottom of the sixth, Detroit right fielder Pete Morrison gave his team the lead. With two out and a runner on 1st, Pinky hit his 10th home run of the year. New York pitcher Dennis McAteer surrendered it. With that, the Wolverines jumped in front, 2-1.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Crain said.
