Jordan Helps Captains Defeat Traders, 4-3
|
San Diego beat Chicago at Union Field, eking out a 4-3 win. The triumph was primarily due to right fielder Gary Jordan. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Ed Prater picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-4. Jimmy Calhoun, who finished 2nd in the NBL in saves with 34 in 1972, was tagged with the loss. With the win, the Captains sit at 31-26.
Jordan had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch sinker from Jimmy Calhoun, he banged a solo home run to center, giving the Captains a 4-3 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Jordan.
"I really like what we did out there today," Jordan said after the game.
