Bobcats Get One-Run Win at Washington
|
In a close game at Monument Field, the Cleveland Bobcats edged the Washington Eagles, 5-4. Cleveland left fielder Phil Chirico stood apart with his performance. He went 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times. Myron Baird got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. With the win, Cleveland boosts its record to 2-4.
Tom Crowell, who finished 5th in the NBL in slugging percentage with .494 in 1969, helped out the Cleveland cause in the top of the third inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.
"It's a long season," said Chirico. "We'll keep working to improve."
