Los Angeles Sent Home with 9-5 Loss
|
With catcher Charlie Bartels leading the charge, the St. Louis Explorers defeated the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 9-5, at Corps of Discovery Stadium. Bartels went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Los Angeles has now lost 5 consecutive games.
Bartels contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for St. Louis in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Bartels took a sinker from Ralph Weintraub and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Explorers to leap in front, 7-4.
"Their at-bats were really impressive against us," said losing manager John Trausch.
