Chicago Beats Seattle as Elsner Throws 2-0 Shutout
|
The Chicago Hawks did little to support starter Bruce Elsner against the Seattle Emeralds, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Emeralds, striking out 5 and surrendering 8 hits. The performance from Elsner allowed Chicago to escape with the 2-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Bruce, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Elsner told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
Checking out his stats for the year, Elsner has racked up 3 wins and 2 losses in 9 starts, posted a 2.20 ERA, and struck out 33 batters in 65.1 innings.
