Lords Get Dramatic 4-1 Triumph
The New York Empires got a sterling performance from pitcher Pete Ragsdale, but the Baltimore Lords still prevailed, 4-1. Ragsdale threw 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Denny Boyd snagged the win in relief. In 3 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits. He's now 3-0 on the season. The Empires, at 26-31, have lost 6 in a row.

Baltimore won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning. With no outs and Jim Olson on the mound for New York, right fielder Phil Taraska hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Lords fans to their feet.

"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said New York manager John Harris.
