The 9-4 Cincinnati win over Pittsburgh was due in large part to Ivan Avila. The Packers center fielder was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The Packers, at 32-25, sit in third place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.

The Industrials had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Packers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old shortstop Glen Bennett came to the plate. Bennett hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Pittsburgh hurler Bob Briggs. It was Bennett's 13th double of the year.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker.
