Cleveland center fielder Phil Chirico had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 7-2, to St. Louis at Lakefront Stadium. Chirico went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Their 33-25 record puts the Explorers third in the National Baseball League Western Division.

St. Louis used the timely hitting of Gary Parker to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Explorers on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Cleveland manager Daniel Mays.
