Bulls Upend Quakers, 6-3
|
Kansas City second baseman Dennis Boggs made his presence felt in the 6-3 Bulls triumph over the Philadelphia Quakers. Boggs was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 times. Bret Weingartz, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1973, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 11 hits, with 5 walks and 8 strikeouts. The Bulls improved their record to 30-30 by beating Philadelphia.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Hank Cummings? The Kansas City catcher had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put the Bulls on top, 2-0. For the game, Cummings had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Feels good to get the job done," Boggs said after the game.
