Starting pitcher Juan Rodriguez fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Detroit Wolverines stymie the Toronto Hurons, 1-0. Detroit reliever John Bailey was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Al West. The win lifted the Detroit record to 31-30.

The Wolverines got a clutch hit from third baseman Duane Simmons. In the bottom of the ninth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Wolverines.

"Another day, another win. On to the next one," Simmons told the Detroit Daily News.
