Captains Rally to Win, 5-4
The Los Angeles Blockbusters could not turn a fine performance from right fielder Jim Brookins into a win. Instead, the San Diego Captains prevailed, 5-4, in 10 innings. Brookins was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The win was credited to Ed Payne in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Larry Mitchell took the loss. With the win, San Diego elevates its record to 4-3.

San Diego used the timely hitting of John Panneton to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Captains on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Both teams played hard," said San Diego manager Joe Mack.
