San Diego turned a fine outing from starter Ed Payne into a victory over the Brooklyn Bluebirds at San Diego Sporting Complex. The final score was 4-2. The Captains saw their win-loss record go to 35-29. At the same time, the Bluebirds fell to 33-31.
Gary Jordan had a big 2-run home run for the Captains in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a changeup from Frank D'Amico, the 19th overall pick in the 1965 draft, and swatted a home run to right. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Captains ahead, 3-0.
"I like what I saw today," said San Diego manager Joe Mack, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
