Detroit Wolverines starter Larry Black was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Atlanta Generals, 7-3. Black, now 9-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 1, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs.

Duane Simmons had a big solo home run for the Wolverines in the top of the third inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 28-year old left-handed pitcher George Palmer and punished it. The result was his 16th home run of the season, which put the Wolverines on top, 2-0.

"Larry showed what he's made of," said Detroit manager Alex Wobbema.

With the win, Detroit raised its record to 35-27.
