The Denver Burros beat the New York Knickerbockers, 11-10, at Gates Crescent Park. Denver left fielder Jimmy Benson, who is tied for 9th in the NBL in doubles with 16, collected 2 singles and 1 double with 2 RBI. Denver reliever Willie Purter picked up the win, upping his record to 6-3. Brian Williams was saddled with the loss. At 41-24, the Burros claim first place in the National Baseball League Western Division.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jim Bitting came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Brian Williams, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Denver on top, 11-10.

"Both teams had plenty of clutch hits," said Benson. "It made for an exciting game."
