Blockbusters Clip Eagles, 2-1
|
The Los Angeles Blockbusters had to overcome a good performance from Washington pitcher Dave Alexander to claim a 2-1 win at Monument Field. Alexander went 8.1 innings and allowed no runs. Los Angeles starter Dario Fontanez was credited with the win after throwing 107 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 4-4. Tom Benson finished the game for Los Angeles and earned his 12th save.
Los Angeles used a timely hit from Gary Austin to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blockbusters ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Los Angeles manager John Trausch said.
Los Angeles now sits at 31-34, while Washington falls to 29-34.
