St. Louis pitcher Jorge Gonzalez had a large part in his team beating the Milwaukee Dairymen, 4-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner in relief was Bruce Shone. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-3. With the win, St. Louis upped its record to 34-33.

The decisive blow was delivered by Dave Bieler in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a bases-clearing double off 27-year old right-handed pitcher Arnie Keilman to win the game for St. Louis. The home crowd went nuts.
