New York Bats Silenced by Lester
|
Goose eggs were the order of the day for the New York Empires as starter Phil Lester shut them out, 1-0, at San Vicente Park. The Los Angeles pitcher struck out 6 and walked 4 while allowing 5 hits.
"Lester was good but he wasn't flawless," New York manager Dan Whiting said. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from Los Angeles, but this is on us."
Thus far this season, Lester has tossed 109 innings in 14 starts, fanned 53 batters, walked 41 and put up a 2.39 ERA with 9 wins and 2 losses.
