Seagulls Drop Empires, 8-6
Fans who congregated at Queens Field were treated to extra-inning drama.

The 8-6 San Francisco win over New York was due largely to Allan Houston. The Seagulls third baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Chuck Porter earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-4. Dennis Dixon nailed down his 1st save.

San Francisco used a clutch hit from Scott Wagner to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Seagulls ahead, 8-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Seagulls manager Al Borie. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

The triumph puts San Francisco at 36-32 for the season.
