Eagles Fall to Quakers, 10-1
|
Washington had no answer for Philadelphia Quakers starter John Stoddard, who flummoxed Eagles hitters as the Quakers cruised to victory, 10-1. Stoddard got the win, improving to 4-5. He gave up 4 hits and walked 3 over 8.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Philadelphia has won 5 straight, while Washington has lost 3 in a row.
Tom Clark had a big 2-run triple for the Quakers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Bill John and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Quakers ahead, 3-0.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Clark. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
