Drillers Win at Home, 9-4
|
The Houston Drillers had to overcome a big game from Dallas third baseman John Hammit to leave Sam Houston Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 9-4. Hammit was 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Francisco Castro got credit for the win, improving to 5-7. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 6.2 innings. With the win, Houston has a record of 35-37. Dallas falls to 35-35.
Tom Martucci had a big bases-clearing triple for the Drillers in the bottom of the second inning. With Houston trailing 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Charlie Sokol, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1962, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Drillers ahead, 3-1.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Martucci.
