Empires Victorious at Montreal, 3-1
|
Larry Stanford, who is tied for 3rd in the ABL in wins with 9, had a strong outing for the New York Empires against the Montreal Habitants at LaSalle Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. In 8.1 innings, Stanford surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Tom Duncan was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities.
New York used the timely hitting of Dave Matuzak to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empires on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said New York manager Dan Whiting. "That's what Larry is right now."
The loss makes Montreal 37-35.
