Elsner Tosses Shutout Against San Francisco
Wednesday, June 24th , 1964
The Chicago Hawks did little to support starter Bruce Elsner against the San Francisco Seagulls, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Seagulls, striking out 9 and surrendering 2 hits. The performance from Elsner allowed Chicago to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said 'Bruce, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Elsner told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."

In 13 starts this year Elsner has recorded a 6-2 record and a 3.07 ERA.
