Elsner Tosses Shutout Against San Francisco Wednesday, June 24th , 1964 The Chicago Hawks did little to support starter Bruce Elsner against the San Francisco Seagulls, but it turned out he didn't need the help. The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Seagulls, striking out 9 and surrendering 2 hits. The performance from Elsner allowed Chicago to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense. "Nobody came to me and said 'Bruce, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Elsner told BNN reporters following the win.
