Stonge Pitches Haymakers to Shutout Win Saturday, September 16th, 1882 George Stonge kept the Syracuse Nationals hitters from doing any damage at State Fair Park today. Syracuse could only muster 2 hits and take no walks against the right-handed Stonge, who controlled them throughout the game as Chicago took the contest, 7-0. Stonge added 5 strikeouts in his complete-game effort. "I don't know if I was on or if they were off today," Stonge told reporters after the shutout win.
