Shadwell Crafts 3-0 Shutout Thursday, April 27th , 1961 The Kansas City Bulls had no answer today for Chicago Traders pitcher Thornton Shadwell. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. Kansas City managed only 2 hits off Shadwell, who had 4 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Shadwell got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Traders fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
