Hall of Fame Honors Joe Shannon
Monday, January 8th , 1968
Earlier this month the selection committee contacted Joe Shannon and gave him the news that he had been elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

At his induction ceremony, the talented and gifted pitching star addressed the baseball immortals and adoring fans who gathered to honor him. "The feeling I've had since my election is a feeling I suspect will never go away. I'm told it never does. It's the highest high you can imagine. I wish you all could feel what I feel standing here. This is my last big game. This is my last big start. This is my last time get the final out. I dreamed of this as a child but I never really thought it would happen... and now it has."

Shannon retired from baseball at the age of 43 and left behind an illustrious career. He appeared in 680 games, pitched 5685 innings, struck out 2337 batters and compiled a fine 2.63 ERA. His career won-lost record was 426-190.
