Cleveland Blanks Philadelphia Behind Shannon
Thursday, August 6th , 1959
The Philadelphia Quakers had no answer today for Cleveland Bobcats pitcher Skip Shannon. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 4-0. Philadelphia managed only 4 hits off Shannon, who had 3 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Shannon got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Bobcats fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

This year Shannon has recorded a 12-10 mark. In 23 starts he has fanned 108 batters in 185.1 innings with a 3.64 ERA.
