Quakers Wiley Blanks Bulls
Sunday, August 4th, 1957
Paul Wiley of the Philadelphia Quakers shut out the Kansas City Bulls 3-0, stopped them on 5 hits and had 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing at Independence Field today.
"He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw," Philadelphia manager Jeff Green said later. "When Paul stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."
This year Wiley has a 8-10 mark in 24 starts with a 2.87 ERA. He has given up 163 hits in 179 innings, struck out 120 and issued 61 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .243 batting average against him.
